Selecting a Color Palette for Your Wedding Day
Color Palettes are a great way to start getting creative with your wedding planning. There are just so many fun combinations. I could just get lost on Pinterest looking at all the different color palette designs for weddings. Once you select your wedding color palette, it will help you choose your flower design, linens, invitations, china, decor, bridal party attire even maybe help you finally narrow down on your venue. So I decided to share a few of my own favorite wedding color palettes. While they are sorted out by season, you do not necessarily have to stick to those colors for those seasons, it just so happens it’s sometimes easier to come by those colors, more readily, in nature. So while these may be sorted by season, feel free to choose a fall color palette for your winter wedding, you always have creative liberty to swap and rearrange for your wedding day. Does that make sense? I hope so. OH also you will see that I will have put some shade of green in each color palette… because I love working with greens in flowers. Greens help make flowers pop and have their moment. So I strongly suggest you use green somewhere in your wedding flowers (also using more greens does NOT always make it more budget friendly, some single stem greens are the same price as a peony, so whoever came up with that theory needs to stop spreading that rumor!)
It is so hard for me to pick a favorite color palette, clothing wise I tend to lean towards Fall colors as it goes well with my ghostly completion (lol) and red hair. But then again I tend to miss Color Palettes that are not used as often. So as I write this in Spring I would say I miss my Fall Vibes weddings. With these Fall color palettes (or Autumn color palette as some would say) you can stick to what I call the traditional fall look with the burgundies, wines, and blush with some pop of green or you can go with the new trendy color palette of mustards and other neutral/earthy tone colors mixed with blushes (which are very popular and hot at the moment!) Honestly both are beautiful and you will not go wrong either way! If you are having a fall wedding these colors are just stunning, if you are not having a fall wedding, but have an envious eye on these fall colors, don’t worry you can totally make it happen! I mean it’s your wedding you get to break the rules and be creative!
Ah Winter, the time when everything goes dormant and everyone thinks there couldn’t possibly be any flowers for winter! Not true, so if you are having winter wedding do not fear just stick to a color palette. Once you find the florist you trust, and create a vision together, then just let her do her magic with the color palette you both agreed on. This allows a lot more liberties with the flowers available during the Winter Season. I am not going to lie though, selection of brighter flowers will be harder to come by, so I suggest keeping to the muted and deep colors or having white with a pop of color incorporated. If your wedding is in a different season and you love this color palette GO FOR IT!! Spring, Summer and Fall you can totally rock the muted colors!
Spring is such a fun time to celebrate with pops of coloring showing up everywhere. When planning your wedding with a spring vibe you will want to use a mixture of bright colors with some muted tones, this allows your color palette to not be to overly bright, while letting your dominate color shine. This also lets the muted colors stand out in their own way as well. Can I be honest? I love fiesta themed weddings and parties. I love the bright colors used throughout the celebration, however I think a nice muted blush, cream or peach really lets those hot spicy colors pop. So if you are planing a wedding with a spring inspired color palette remember half pop of color, half muted colors.
Oh Summer, the season of weddings and strong minded Leo’s (I birthed a Leo pray for me). Summer Vibe color palettes (and state of mind) start with a “its all good”vibe and near the end morph into “can it be fall yet?” When I think summery colors that inspire me, I think of bright fun colors (with a couple muted tones of course!) Near the end of summer when we are all over the heat and longing for the cool breeze we begin to let fall inspire our summer vibe. So I think it was appropriate to incorporate the second line of color palette to the summer swatch! This summer color palette reminds me of when we still have the heat of late September/ early October but are trying to pull off Uggs and leggings, while sweating, wishing it was fall. It may seem silly, but we know we make it look good. You can go for the bold summer vibe color palette, or the calmer version, neither will do you wrong!
I hope these color palettes helped inspire you to start planning your dream wedding. As I mentioned before, even though I titled them with the seasons you can always find a way to bring those colors into your wedding anytime of the year. Choosing a color palette will help you begin the creative process of planning your wedding. Be willing to work with a color palette with your florist rather then specific flowers this will allow your florist to bring a beautiful design to you on your wedding day that will wow and inspire.
